When the last magazine I worked for closed down with immediate effect without any given notice or compensation, I have decided that I had enough. For the past few years I was often asked to join a corporation to either revamp their existing magazine or website, bringing it to the next level or to branch out from the existing business into other new businesses. Since I was kind of “jobless”, I thought why not come up with my own portal instead?

The initial idea was to start a lifestyle portal that relates back to my existing beauty blog Street Love. It seems to make sense for me to do so until I ran into the realization that I’m running straight into a pool of competitors.

Modern Mavens is Malaysia’s First and No. 1 Empowering and Inspiring Community for Women. This site was created to bring all inspiring and successful women of all ages together at one common place – to let their stories be heard, to share success stories, stories on these women’s lifestyle whether on their home & living, fashion, beauty, kids, travel and many more, a chance to share awesome ideas that will be beneficial to everyone regardless and ultimately to empower each other and spark inspiration. Most importantly, the second main reason why I started this site is also to channel out my passion with various charity activities. I have always wanted to do something more when it comes to charity. And lastly, the Lifestyle bits to spice things up and to make the overall site more enjoyable to read.

Meet the founder – Fiona

Modern Mavens Founder Fiona Loh

Fiona, also fondly known as Street Love in the beauty industry started tipping her toes into print publishing since the early age of 24. It all started with her passion with cars, then approached by one of the local English automotive magazine to help in selling advertisement space. A few years later down the road, she found herself working for Malaysia’s largest classified automotive magazine – Motor Trader, Bike Trader and Autocar, painfully climbing her way up until she was the Head of Corporate Sales, responsible for the overall corporate sales department and special projects.

Moving forward, she understand the rise of digital presence and so she joined OhBulan.com, a Malay socialtainment website for local and international celebrity news as the Sales Manager, managing the digital and non-digital business development aspects for the portal.

Now she is ready to take what she had learnt from previous print and digital publishing to Modern Mavens!
